This one was too good to pass up. The news from Germany is so much more interesting than ours. ;-)

Blind, Drunk Driver Stopped by Police

Ananova.com | December 7, 2000

POLICE OFFICERS in Germany who stopped a car driver after he was reported weaving slowly down a street found he was not only drunk but he was also blind.

The man told officers he had always wanted to try it and had borrowed his friend's car after having a few drinks and setting off at night through the town of Mainz.

The 33-year-old man was arrested but he insisted he was being extremely careful and assured them that he was taking it in stages, driving a couple of feet before stopping, getting out and walking around the car with his arms outstretched to check for obstacles.

A police spokesman says the car had been lent to the man but that he did not have a driving licence because of his blindness - and he should not have been in charge of a vehicle because of his drunkenness.

The man had managed to get the car out of a school car park and nearly 50ft up the road before locals called police.

An alcohol test found he was three times over the limit.
